Internet Bridge Troll

0

Due to my recent encounter with a troll on my blog I thought this was appropriate to post here. Fortunately since I blocked his IP and all proxy addresses I haven’t heard from him. If only there was a way to rid the rest of the internet of people like him.

It’s my blog and I’ll cry if I want too!

It’s my blog and I’ll cry if I want too!

This is a blog, short for web log.  Originally designed to be a Journal or online Diary, but used for just about anything your little heart desires.

My little heart likes to use this site for a cheesy diary.  A place where I can intermingle with my feminine side and open up to whomever is as pathetic as me and willing to read my ramblings.  Which basically means I don’t usually expect anyone to read this….. in most cases I should pray that no one reads this.

With that in mind, this is where I go to whine, cry, bitch, and moan.  So telling me on every single post I write, that I do nothing but cry and whine is kind of redundant.  My reasons for writing such a blog are a mystery even to me.  But I do enjoy it, it lets me vent, and I’m really not looking for anyone’s approval.  Occasionally I do use it for something else, and possible get some feedback from people, but that’s mainly because this medium allows me to do that and it already exists.

I also like being a tattle tale.  Not because I like being a dick, but because people learn that about me very quickly and generally get smart around me and don’t do anything that would get them in trouble.  Leaving me to live a life where I don’t have to deal with stupid bullshit.  Yes I will call the police if you break the law.  If I break the law, then by all means you are more than welcome to call me out and take me to jail.  I have the utmost respect for cops, if they bust me for speeding or parking in a no parking zone, then yes I will be rather upset by this.  I might complain, but at the same time I will bend over and take it up the ass because I know its coming. Cops are human just like me and you, and prone to mistakes.  So saying that I like or dislike cops is about as generic as saying I hate women, yet everytime you meet a women they are in the ladies room taking a dump.

At the same time, a bad day with the wife will have most men swearing about women in general.  Its not an honest opinion, or meant to be accurate in the least.  Its just that as humans we generalize.  This same methodology is also how racism exists.  Personally I don’t have problems with any one race, but I do have issues with people that wear baggy clothes that scream “I dress like this so I can hide a gun”.  Some people put an entire race into this category based on their own personal experience.  Racism isn’t the problem, its we as people generalizing everything that is the problem.  A bad day with a cop and as human as I can be, you might catch me generalizing about cops.

I have never got the whole tattle tale thing anyway, then telling me I have no respect for cops.  Aren’t cops just paid tattlers?  If I call the police to get you to stop wouldn’t that be the same as if a cop deliberately saw you?  Granted there are laws that are just retarded and most of us just ignore them anyway.  There are even large collections and whole sites like idiotlaws.com which are dedicated at sharing these worthless laws.  However if I come across a law that benefits me in any way shape or form why shouldn’t I take advantage of it?

If it is against the rules to smoke on campus, and I find it uncomfortable to be around the smoke, I will play that card.  As an ex-smoker I know what its like when someone plays that card.  Its annoying and uncomfortable to not be able to smoke.  At the same time I realize that the law is against me and drag my head and again take it up the ass by putting the cigarette out.  It’s just how the system works.

That is the only thing logical that I can make out of your bad english to rebutal.  The whole Army thing and the wife thing, you’re just wrong on multiple levels.  Yes there were issues with both of those areas but they have been resolved.

I have an honorable discharge from the Army and there is still an ongoing investigation unrelated to my discharge status, and non-disciplinary on my part that prevents me from disclosing any detailed information.  Me and the wife are still together, and planning on moving back to Korea after I finish my degree.  That blog post is long overdue, but its on my to-do list.

Regardless, I am saying this to just you and all future trolls.  Give me your first name, lie, I don’t care.  Its annoying to guess if you’re the same person or a second troll.  So far is just the one guy, whose bad grammar and inability to proof read gives him away.  But as a formality, name yourself. I guess I will call you Tuscon as your IP (97.115.238.179) says that’s where you are from… well it did before I blocked it. :)

Anyway, I am now installing a script that blocks all proxy servers.  So no more anonymous comments randomly showing up.  Its just a blog, so as long as I can visit it, I’m happy.  And anything that you post will get posted into a moderation que in which I will have to approve.  I don’t get many comments and I don’t care.  I’ve been allowing anyone to post anything, now I won’t give you the satisfaction anymore.  I just delete and ignore from now on.

So to test my script and see if it actually worked, please, please, please post something.

Everyone else, have a nice day.  I will try to whine out some more posts later.  For now though this is the last I will be talking about my personal troll.

Server transferred, RazorNylon getting archived again?

Server transferred, RazorNylon getting archived again?

The last month has been painstakingly long.  Not just with finals but with getting my server off GoDaddy and onto Rackspace.  Today is my last day with GoDaddy before the contract expires.  I have everything downloaded and all my databases backed up, but not everything is online.  Even one site that I was hosting for a friend in Iraq will be lost.  He is unable to make the change on his domain to the new server so the site will go offline once the old server is shut down.

Already I have noticed an incredible difference.  Tasks that used to take 1-2 minutes on GoDaddy take about 10-20 seconds at most now.  Working with ImageMagick and having the server resize pictures that I upload is a breeze, I never imagined it would be this easy.  A photo album with a couple hundred pictures can be resized in 4 different sizes with EXIF data read and published in less than 30 seconds.  I could have gone to Starbucks and got coffee in the time it would take GoDaddy.

The speed alone is more than enough of a reason to leave GoDaddy.  The tech support makes it even better.  I submitted a ticket with rackspace telling them I needed some plugins installed so I could run Laconi.ca and other things like NetPBM, ImageMagick, and FFMPEG.  There was about 12 programs on the list, and my ticket asked which ones were already installed, and also for my user name to gain SSH access to install them.  Within 15 minutes I got a phone call from them telling me that they can install all those programs for me, but wanted to tell me that they can’t offer any support for 2 out of the 12.  Less than an hour later, they sent me an e-mail telling me all the programs I wanted have been installed, the upgraded me to the latest version of PHP, and included my SSH info.  Just under an hour, they did a software update that would have taken me a day or better working through a SSH terminal to install and test.

This doesn’t come without a price though.  About 5 years ago I was paying about $20 a month for some shared hosting service, now I am paying about $400.  I actually pay more for my website than I do for my car.  I thought GoDaddy was a reach at $180 a month, butnow I am seriously paying our the ass for a web site.  Never thought it would come to this.

I make the switch from a shared host to a dedicated server about 3 years ago just after one site I made was all the talk on several media outlets.  The shared host that provided “unlimited” everything told me that I was so special I was getting a limit.  The search engine that was on the site was being used so much that it took a lot of resources from the server.  In fact with GoDaddy I had issues with that server during high peak times.  I have had as many as 10,000 search’s in a single day, and 70+ concurrent users online at once visiting my main site.

I have about 30 domains at the moment and while I would love for RazorNylon to take off and for me to be a tech blogger I think that I am stuck with NCOSchool.  NCO School is my pride and joy, and the one that pays the bills so I really can’t complain.  I have a couple other sites that practically run themselves that help our financially as well, but NCOSchool is number one in several areas.

NCOSchool.com actually just broke several milestones this last week.  1,000,000 page views, 2,000 registered users, and 2,000 followers on twitter.  So why do I want to get myself away from it?  Well, its a military site that helps soldiers.  I sell it as an open source community for soldiers to share and exchange knowledge and expertise.  I’m no longer in the military so my personal expertise isn’t what it used to be and things change making it hard for me to stay on top of things.  I don’t want to rely on a site in which I can’t really take a part of myself.

I did try for a good two months on trying to get RazorNylon off the ground by tech blogging.  At best I think I spent 10 hours a day prepping and made about $10 for the month in ads from cafepress.  The logic in bloggin like that doesn’t pay off.  Although I did enjoy it.  NCOSchool though has a lot more potential and I have about 4 main projects and 20 more minor ones.  I am turning the site into an Army specific search engine.  Topics will be categorized like Yahoo! was when they first came out and in my case it will work because I am not trying to catalog the entire internet, just the Army, and I will be the only one doing it.

This is going to take some time, and with other issues with school (saving that for another post) I might have a lot more time on my hands being stuck on a waiting list for classes.  I have been implementing a lot of these ideas into NCOSchool already and they have turned out for the better.  I am getting more traffic daily, and it looks like more people are staying around longer instead of grab and go.

I think I will have to re-work RazorNylon into something else again, maybe move the blog and just have the old CMS based site back with games and everything.  I just wish I could get it off the ground like I did with NCOSchool.

Overpowered by Lifestream

Overpowered by Lifestream

Its been about a month now since I installed the LifeStream script.  This is a script that combines RSS feeds from everything I use around the web and compiles them into a single page.

To create an archive of everything and save it I have been posting a daily blog post.  While this sounds like a good idea, if you have visited here lately you would have noticed that the front page is nothing but lifestream posts.  I also know that some who read the RSS feed from the site aren’t too happy with less content and more random junk.

So to put everything back to normal I have removed the function to post a blog post daily via LifeStream, and created a second subdomain so that I can still have the archive I wanted.  I went through and deleted all the old blog posts, and cleaned it up a little bit so now I have the same old blog I have always had.

If you were one of the few who liked reading my lifestream, that new site is located at lifestream.razornylon.com.  I still have the script installed here, it just doesn’t create a blog post anymore.

New look for the blog

New look for the blog

I went through and found a new theme for my blog this weekend.  The main reason is I am not trying out Twitter and with the old theme I had to go into the theme’s PHP files in order to change anything.  This took time and extra work.  So after a quick search I found a theme that was widget ready and suited my taste with colors and graphics and made the switch.  A couple widgets had to be installed that do the same thing as the codes I had installed before them, but this makes everything a lot easier to edit, add, and change.

I’m working on installing everything that was once here but I think a lot of it I can easily do without.  I am still trying to make this blog an alternative to MySpace or Facebook, giving me more control over everything and the ability to add or subtract the content I choose.
