Hanna’s Surgery

About a week ago my wife noticed something in our daughters ear. After a visit to the ER and an ear, nose, and throat specialist, we were left with the only option of putting her to sleep for them to remove it. I don’t really like calling it surgery since she just went to sleep, but this is what the nurses and doctors are calling it so I really don’t know.

Up until today we had no clue what it was. I’m not sure where she got it from, but its a blue plastic gem that has been broken. It looks rather weathered too so I am guessing that she could have found it on the ground possibly at a playground.

Everything went fine, because of the sharp edges on the gem there was a little bleeding, but overall everything went as good as could be expected. She was a little crabby when she got home, but after an hour or two everything was back to normal.

Before they administer the anesthesia they gave her an oral dose of something they said was similar to Valium. This was to help her relax so when they gave her the anesthesia she wouldn’t be as stressed and it would take effect faster.  It did leave us with a little girl who was nothing but laughs for a few minutes before they took her away.  I took a couple videos but whenever she noticed I was recording her she wanted to look into the lens of the camera… lol!  Below is one of the better ones where I played with her a little to keep her distracted so I could record.

After they brought her out it wasn’t as exciting. She was more delirious than anything else. Barely able to sit up and not aware of anything that she was doing. We gave her a cup of apple juice to which she reached her hand right in and didn’t even realize what she did.

After a couple hours she was back to normal and everything is fine. Because she wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything 12 hours before the surgery she was hungry, but also because of the drugs we had to slowly introduce good food.

On a plus side for her, today the new Princess Kai-Lan movie aired on Nick which she has been anticipating for several weeks. I even had to make a countdown calendar so she could understand that she has to wait. So the day started out early, stressful, and with a lot of worry but ended with a very bright and cheerful mood.
