So far its been an eventful weekend. And today we were thinking that it was about to come to an end and sadly we were mistaken.
To back things up, my wife discovered something in my daughters ear Friday afternoon. After about an hour or so of debating whether we wanted to wait until Monday to remove it we opted for the Emergency room route.
The guy we got was only a physicians assistant, and apparently had never removed anything from someones ear like this before. He brought out a wide selection of tweezers and used these weird ones (pictured left) that I wouldn’t have choose. Then when they didn’t work he put some glue on a q-tip and the only thing that came out was a bloody q-tip. Personally me and the wife both think he did more harm than anything.
The most disturbing part is that he sent us on our way with the foreign object in her ear. Gave us a prescription in case she gets an infection (which god knows where he expected us to fill it at 1am), and a business card to call on Monday and make an appointment. Had my wife not been friends with the receptionist in the Ear Nose and Throat clinic, we wouldn’t had been able to get in today.
The specialist gave a very brief attempt, before he also gave up and said “she’s gotta go to sleep”. Which I suppose is fairly obvious to what that means, except as a parent I am looking at all the other things that could mean that don’t sound as scary. After about 100 questions he laughs then tells us we are welcome to get a second opinion. I don’t want a second opinion, I want my daughter in perfect health!
Maybe its just me being overly cautions as a parent, but I still think the medical care here in Sacramento is embarrassing to say the least. Especially to my wife who is familiar with the excessively higher standards in Seoul Korea.
The surgery or whatever you want to call it should be sometime Friday, making her have to have the thing in her ear for at least a week. Whatever it is will be finding a new home covering an entire page in her baby book.
