DVC shooting was more than predictable!

School shooting are hardly a thing to laugh at.  However when you write a post less than a month before a shooting stating that because things are so jacked up a shooting is nearly inevitable in the upcoming future you almost want to find the humor in it.

Someone pointed out that it may not be in my best interest to state that there will be a shooting at a school for obvious reasons, but I said it anyway.  At DVC someone could walk around campus with a shotgun and the police wouldn’t get out of their golf carts or leave their air conditioned office to address it.  I’ve called them several times now to complain about smokers or skateboarders right outside the classroom windows and they never respond.  NEVER!!!!!

The library is the main concern.  Its in the center of campus making it the furthest from any smoking area and the actual library is on the second floor so easily collects all the cigarette smoke.  Some days enough to make you sick. On rainy days it collects even more smokers trying to stay dry which does make me sick.  California law prohibits smoking within 20ft of a public door or window punishable up to a $500 fine, yet no one ever shows.  They could resolve the budget cuts in a week if they did their job!

Its absurd to even remotely consider police behavior in this manner.  Having been in the Army and pulled countless guard duties I am well aware of the role we take and how to follow orders.  It’s cut and dry, these are the rules follow them or suffer the consequences.  Not hard.  I guess unless you are a police officer working on the DVC campus.  They can’t even walk across campus, they have golf carts!  Even the small group that stands outside of Pete’s coffee in the quad which is only 50 feet from the police station.  They need golf carts to go the 50 feet and get coffee, then stand there and ignore people breaking the law all around them.

The shooting wasn’t too severe and I suppose they know who the guy is as he did it in front of everyone on the football field.  Not sure if they caught him but the victim is expected to survive.

Typically I would assume that there is nothing they could have done but from what this article states not only was there a physical altercation prior to the shooting but there is a long history between those two.  Had a cop been at the field (public event… should have been mandatory) he could have likely stepped in (or just his presence could have been a nice deterrent) and stopped the shooting from ever taking place.  Or worse case he could have caught the guy immediately instead of conducting a manhunt with dogs and all this on the campus. Which also confuses me.

The campus is about the size of a city block.  A rugby player would be able to run that well before the police got some dogs rounded up to search the campus.  Maybe they just didn’t want to go anywhere without there golf carts?

FYI, campus police are real police not security hired by the school.  They have the authority to arrest and everything a regular cop can do.

I just hope that this is enough to put some pressure on the police there.  I guess I am rather unusual too.  I don’t bitch about TSA while they rummage through my bag before getting on a plane, but I will make a scene when I see them joking and not paying attention.  Just a HUGE pet peave of mine… work is work, play is play.  Terrorist highjack planes cause they catch TSA playing (or maybe sleeping)!  DVC cops don’t seem to understand why they get a paycheck.

Think I am going to try transferring to a different college next semester.  I’ve had about all I can take of this school.  Only reason I’ve stayed this long is its my 5th school.  (Army liked to have there way with me moving everywhere)

DVC definitely has the most disrespect I have ever seen.  Even if I get a degree from here I will transfer somewhere else and deny ever attending its that much of an embarrassment!  Probably why I allow myself to write crap like this, eventually I will delete it and forget it ever happened!

UPDATE: Suspect suffered a broken jaw and was caught at the hospital.

Stuck at the DMV

famguy-dmv

Sitting in the DMV at the moment hating on California. I have a ticket with a letter and a number on it. There are over 100 numbers to be called in my letter class before me and there are about 10 letter classes. I think I am in one of the more dense letter classes and not quite sure how they work but I’m willing to guess that there is over 200 people before me. The reason I’m hating is not just the wait time but the whole system.

Last night I got a ticket for driving with expired registration. I could have paid it by mail but they sent it too me several months before I had to and stupid me put it off and forgot about it. Then life just got crazy and getting to the DMV at an appropriate time was just not convienent. I’m actually cutting class right now just to sit here.

I probably would have put it off again except that I the cop told me if I get caught a second time they tow my car. So it’s skip a class or risk missing lots of classes cause I can’t drive to them. I do know that I will be marking my calendar from now on with 100 alerts to remind me….. In fact I am putting my drivers license in there now. August of 2013, but entering it now.

The one thing that I would like to complain about is the cost. It’s going to cost me over $300 just for the sticker that goes on my license plate. In Tennessee it was $15 per year, in New York it was $50 for two years, and I can’t remember what it cost in Pennsylvania but I’m sure it wasn’t as expensive as it is here. But no one seems to care or complain. They just say, oh it’s California. Which is really confusing to me. This state is home to Hollywood and Sillicon Valley. They can’t get enough money from those two huge world famous industries that they need to tax me so much?

New York City is the 2nd largest city in the world, and the largest American city. But $25 a year paid every other year is all they ask for. California is a whoping 1,000% higher! Double the rate, triple it even would be somewhat reasonable…. But more than 10 times?!? I’m ready to move anywhere else just to not be taxed to hell and living in a state that is so irresponsible with money that they are on the verge of bankruptcy.

One of the many reasons that me and the wife are considering moving back to Korea. The large number of people who look like they are in a gang and possibly dangerous…. The extreme lack of respect among the younger crowd…. And I could go on all day giving reasons like these.

Either way this is not a country I want my daughter brought up in. It does shine a new light on understanding those who are part of a cult. But I still would rather not go that route!
